Michał is a live/session drummer, composer, and producer currently studying in Austria and working with several international artists and performers. Michał has garnered top recognition at various international jazz competitions. In 2015, he won the prize for the ”Best Soloist” at the European Jazz Competition in the Netherlands. He has also won an “individual award” in the international competition at the Krokus Jazz Festival as well as many other awards and prizes. Recently, Michał has also been featured as the drummer of the month in Austrian drum-magazine “Backbeat”. After being accepted at Anton Brückner Privatuniveristät in Linz, Michał began studying with New Orleans drummer Jeffrey Boudreaux (Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Randy Brecker, Rick Margitza, Toots Thielemans, Alexandre Desplat, and many others) who became his drum teacher and life mentor. His unique approach to learning had not only a strong influence on Michał’s drumming but also had broadened his musical horizons. During the second year of studying at ABPU, Michał was invited to work with famous Austrian jazz saxophonist Harry Sokal (Art Farmer, Joe Zawinul, Vienna Art Orchestra) with whom he recorded a CD “I Remember Art” which was nominated for the prestigious “German Record Critics’ Award”.
Michał also got accepted for the exchange program at the “Le Pôle Supérieur d’enseignement artistique Paris Boulogne-Billancourt” in France and had a chance to study with legendary drummer Daniel Humair. He also took a part of masterclasses of musicians like Brian Blade, Chris Dave, David Dorůžka and many others.
With a band Purple is the Color, Michał recorded a critically acclaimed debut CD “UNMASKED” and has toured across Europe. The album also features his composition “For Now”. The band has won the Central European Competition 2018 as an absolute winner.
Michał’s open-minded approach to the playing allows Michał to move freely across various musical genres. He also performs with Beránci a Vlci – ambitious audio-visual project from the Czech jazz bassist and multi-instrumentalist Marian Friedl, which uniquely blends traditional Wallach music, world music and also jazz. The self-titled album was warmly accepted among the critics and won Anděl Awards 2017 for the best album in its category.
Michał is also involved in making music for film and various other audio-visual projects. Currently, he composed and produced an original soundtrack for the short student animated movie “Starman”.
